Ford F-150 Lightning Wins North American Truck of the Year
The Ford F-150 Lightning is charging into the new year as the North American Truck of the Year. This is the latest award in the electric truck's trophy case and marks Ford's third straight NACTOY Truck of the Year award. It's also the fifth NACTOY award for Ford in the past three years. This is a massive win for the team that has been working so hard to build and deliver as many Lightnings as possible as quickly as possible.
New and Improved Ford Lightning Software
Ford is ramping up production of the Lightning this fall to pump out 150,000. Ford has started delivering Lightnings from the factory with a significant new user interface update to improve the driver experience that we'll also roll out to all Lightning owners over the air. This cloud-based connectivity, including software updates, is downloaded. The Lightning keeps the driver informed on everything from battery charge level, real-time power consumption, regenerative braking energy levels, battery temperature, and even motor temperature.
Lightning is the Best-Selling Electric Truck
The F-150 Lightning has been the best-selling electric truck in the U.S. since its launch in May 2022, with sales totaling 15,617, helping Ford to become the Number 2 EV automaker in the U.S. in 2022. Ford's effort to create an all-electric F-150 is remarkable, combining the standard truck's dimensions, retaining massive aftermarket support, and substantial upgrades to storage and mobile power support. It's the best of all worlds, giving the F-150 Lightning a wide range of applications for traditional and new-to-the-segment truck customers.
What is NACTOY
Vehicles must be new or substantially changed for the year to win the North American Truck of the Year. The jury of 50 professional automotive journalists across North America chooses a winner based on innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value. NACTOY uses journalists from the United States and Canada who work for and contribute to independent magazines, newspapers, websites, television, and radio stations. Founded in 1994 by veteran auto journalist Christopher Jensen, they are the longest-running new-vehicle awards not associated with a single publication.
