2020 Explorer Limited Hybrid to Arrive

Whether you’re going from New York to DC or Detroit to Toronto, we all can agree that fewer stops at the gas station always make the trip better! In 2020, Ford is releasing the Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid with a rear-wheel-drive system which will have estimated EPA ratings of 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Also available will be a four-wheel-drive version which has estimated EPA of 23 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. With an 18-gallon fuel tank, the all-new Explorer Limited Hybrid with rear-wheel-drive has an estimated EPA range of over 500 miles between gas station stops and a range of over 450 miles with four-wheel-drive. The best part is while your saving on fuel you are not sacrificing towing power as the Limited Hybrid provides a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds, which is the same as a properly equipped Explorer with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost Engine.

The Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid comes with a 3.3-liter V6 hybrid engine with 318 horsepower paired with an all-new 10-speed modular hybrid transmission. The engine comes with the option of rear or four-wheel-drive and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds when equipped with the Class III tow package. This no-compromise ability extends to the cargo area as, unlike previous hybrid vehicles, the Explorer Limited Hybrid features a specially designed liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that is built into the chassis below the second-row seats to secure the cargo and passenger space.

First introduced in March of 1990 the Ford Explorer was created to replace the Ford Bronco with a vehicle that was closer to its competitors. Like the Ford Bronco, the first-generation Ford Explorer shares its chassis and underpinnings with the first-generation Ford Ranger. When compared with the Bronco, the Explorer is far larger with the two-door Explorer Sport gaining 12.6 inches in length and the four-door being 22.5 inches longer. This current generation of the Explorer debuted in 2019 ahead of the 2019 North American International Auto Show. For 2020, the Ford Explorer is built on the all-new rear-wheel-drive system based on that created for the Lincoln Aviator. Also included is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. All Ford Explored come mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission with the option of rear- or four-wheel drive. Optional for the Explorer is a 3.0-EcoBoost V6 making 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Ford Explorer comes in five trim levels.
