Family Road Trip Hacks

Everyone loves a good vacation: it’s relaxing, rejuvenating, and we’re often our best selves when lounging around on serene beaches or exploring new terrain. However, if you’re a parent, you also know how much work goes into planning and pulling off a successful family vacation road trip! Here are some tips that will help moms and dads streamline their vacation responsibilities so even they can enjoy a little R and R!

Order out…and in! It’s nothing new to have a pizza delivered, but did you know most restaurants will deliver full meals now? Download select apps on your smart phone and you’ll have instant access to groceries, your favorite eateries, and other vacation necessities.

Let the hotel do the work! So many hotels are pulling double duty these days. From the usual of providing extra bedding and towels to the extreme of in-room gyms and on-grounds babysitters, 21st century hotels make it so we never have to leave for a great experience.

Be selective with amenities! Pre-kids, my husband and I wanted vacation destinations with swim-up bars and a great nightlife. Now that we have three little ones in tow, priorities have changed a bit! Now, instead of unlimited access to top-shelf liquor, today I prefer an in-room washer and dryer to lighten the packing load and eliminate the need to do laundry the second we get home!

Pack chip clips: Chip clips are clutch when it comes to keeping curtains closed, anchoring picnic or beach blankets, or weighing down outdoor tablecloths. If you’re interested in kids who sleep past sunrise or blankets that stay put, pack some chip clips for your trip!

And a Ziploc bag: Another fantastic every day item that’ll come in handy on vacation is the gallon Ziploc bag. It takes up virtually no space in your purse or pocket and serves a multitude of purposes from a smell-proof vault for wet clothes, or a water and sand-proof safe for electronics.

Safekeeping for electronics: Speaking of electronics, these days kids are attached to their tablets and adults are guilty of their fair share of screen time. Organize all those cords with the help of an extra glasses case and consider investing in headphones that accommodate more than one device. You’ll thank me for the quiet later!
